Established a Private Trust Company for a wealthy entrepreneur

We have recently established a Private Trust Company (PTC) for a wealthy entrepreneur who has numerous business interests following an introduction through their existing legal adviser. The client currently has considerable cash balances held in a trust, and wanted to seek professional advice on investing and succession planning for his two children. Having taken on board what the client wishes to achieve, we initially conducted a full review of his current finances, working closely with his existing tax adviser, before presenting to the client a proposal of recommendations for his review and further discussion.

We recommended that for estate planning reasons it would make sense to hold his assets in a number of different trusts, hence the use of a PTC. A PTC is a company established to act as the trustee of a single trust, or group of related trusts. As the client did not want to transfer control over his entire wealth to someone who was not known to him, a PTC provided the answer as this allows the client to retain influence or ultimate control over the trusts of which the PTC is trustee.
